With Halloween just around the corner, make this fun and easy project over the weekend! You can switch up some of the materials used here like the Balsa wood with Basswood or the type of vinyl you will be using like glittery vinyl in place of glossy one. Just Mix it up to come up with your own unique version ;)
Make these easy wooden Pumpkin earrings with your Cricut Maker (with free Downloadable SVG Cut file)
What you will need for this project:
Balsa wood. You can use Basswood if that's what you fancy.
*For this project, I am using a 2 mm thick Balsa wood.
Cricut Maker machine-Because we will be using the Cricut knife blade.
If you're using Cricut explore air machine, I recommend you reading this post by heyletsmakestuff. It has some great information about cutting balsa wood with your Cricut machine.
Vinyl of choice. I'm using (and loving!) Oracal 651 glossy vinyl.
Cricut weeder Tool
Some Transfer Tape
The first step is to download the FREE Pumpkin SVG cut file that we will be using for this project.
You can Grab it from below.
Next, Open the SVG file in Design Space.
As you can see in the Image below, there are 2 cut files.
The (1)silhouette of the pumpkin will be the image we are going to use to cut our wood and the (2)colored pumpkin will be the image we will use to cut our vinyl.
So go ahead and delete the top image (vinyl) and cut the pumpkin silhouette with your Cricut maker machine.
*Make sure you follow the instructions in Design space as you go along and cut the wood.
*Don't forget to use the strong grip mat (purple mat) and make sure you tape down your wood to the mat so it doesn't wobble around.
After the machine finishes cutting, pop the pumpkins out.
Next, go ahead and delete the pumpkin silhouette and cut the colored pumpkin with vinyl.
Weed out the shape after the machine finishes cutting.
Transfer the vinyls on top of the pumpkin wood cut out using a transfer tape.
Because the Balsa wood is quite soft, I was able to use my Cricut Weeder tool to create a hole where the earring hook would go. If you will be using a thicker wood, you may have to use some other tool to create a hole (try scissors, Knife, Blade or anything sharp enough to pierce the wood).
All that's left to do now is to add the earring hooks and you're done!
