I LOVE
all things distressed! For me, it adds a touch of rustiness to any design.
Achieving this effect is actually super easy! (Minus the tedious weeding ofcourse haha!)
In this easy tutorial I’m going to show you, step by step how to add a distressed, grunge, cracked or any texture effect for that matter to an object or shape in Design Space.

How to give Shapes/ objects a Distressed effect in Cricut Design Space

The first thing you need to do is to go on Cricut design space and
  1. open the distressed or grunge effect file (you can download a free version at the bottom of the page)
  2. and the shape or object you want that effect to be added to.

If you don't like a grunge effect, you can try other effects such as a crack effect. I also have a bundle of 22 different patterns/ effects in my shop if that's something you may be interested in.

Ok, now that we have our files opened in design space, we want to position them in a way that they are overlapping each other.
Just make sure when you place the distressed pattern, it covers the entire shape you want to distress. you can easily do that by moving around and making the distressed layer larger

Now, go ahead and select both layers and click on the slice action (you can find the slice action at the bottom right hand of the layers panel or you can right click on the selected layers and choose slice).

And basically that’s it! Now you can move the separated pieces around, delete the ones you don’t need and keep the one you want to cut.

All you have to do now is cut out the design, and start weeding. weeding and weeding! ;)
I Hope you found this tutorial useful! Do you know of other ways to create a distressed effect? Share with us in the comments.
